PRESENT LAUGHTER

I was a costume maker on the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama's production of Noël Coward's 'Present Laughter' in November 2017. I made a 1930s bias-cut evening dress for Costume Designer Sophia Mavromichalis.

ORIGINAL DESIGN

Using Costume Designer Sophia Mavromichalis' design for the dress, I began to put together technical drawings so she was able to see how the dress would be fabricated in the most appropriate and accurate manner.

MAKING

The dress was made from a light grey crêpe-back satin. The dress was cut on the bias and was adapted to the actress and character's needs on-stage, whilst being constructed in a manner that was faithful to the design aesthetic of the 1930s.
