Christian Dior - New York Autumn/Winter 1963
This lovely suit is a great example of early-60s Dior! Since the debut collection of Christian Dior in 1947, one of the the maison's international client bases was the United States, leading to the establishment of Christian Dior - New York: a label that made designs from the latest collections available to the US clientele.
The Autumn/Winter 1963 collection was no exception, with certain designs being made available to the US clients.
A feature of this collection was creative director Marc Bohan's tailored suits with box-pleated A-line skirts and a slightly squared shoulder line. It was a silhouette used for both day suits in heavy wool tweed, and cocktail ensembles in rich brocades and matelassés.
This suit, made for Christian Dior - New York, was of a beautiful black silk, woven with a circular motif. The fabric itself feels incredibly luxurious, with a real sheen that reflects light beautifully. The line of the silhouette is simple, but incredibly chic. A true sixties gem!

Condition:
Good.
The exterior fabric is still in excellent condition, and has retained its sheen and luxurious quality. The lining on the jacket displays a few areas of minor wear and tear, including a small 3cm tear along the seam at the back neckline, and a hole at each underarm as a result of original wear. The skirt is still in very good condition, with the original hanger loops having been removed at some point. The hem is finished with a lovely row of black lace binding which has faded to brown with age, most likely due to the use of an unstable dye.
